Impact Copolymer PP for Auto Parts

Impact copolymer polypropylene blends a stiff homopolymer matrix with dispersed rubbery ethylene-propylene segments. That combination is what lets the material absorb impact without becoming soft or brittle at room temperature.

Automotive interiors and semi-structural parts value this balance. Components such as trims, consoles and bumper elements need enough toughness for handling and service life, yet enough rigidity to hold shape and tool firmly.

Polypropylene also brings low density and good chemical resistance, which helps lightweighting and cabin durability. These traits explain why it has displaced heavier materials across many vehicle assemblies.

Stiffness Versus Toughness

More rubber phase raises impact strength but lowers stiffness and heat-deflection temperature. Grade selection is therefore a targeted match to the part's load and temperature profile.

Medium-impact grades such as K8009 suit a wide band of interior and general molded parts, while higher-impact grades step in where low-temperature or heavy-impact performance is required.
