PPH-T03 Film Orientation & Gel Control

Biaxially oriented PP film is built by stretching a cast sheet first in the machine direction and then in the transverse direction. Sinopec PPH-T03 is formulated as a film homopolymer whose molecular structure supports this sequential orientation and the clarity buyers expect.

Orientation is what turns a soft cast sheet into a stiff, strong, low-haze film. The draw temperatures and stretch ratios set the balance of stiffness, toughness and optics, so line condition and resin consistency must move together.

Gels are a persistent film defect: tiny cross-linked or unmolten particles that appear as visible spots and can trigger breaks. Low ash and clean additive packages reduce gel formation, which is why film grades are held to tighter purity than general-purpose resin.

Controlling Defects On The Line

Operators watch chill-roll temperature, orienter temperature and line speed together. Too much heat softens the structure; too little prevents full orientation and hurts clarity and strength.

Resin-side, stable MFR and low gel count keep the film uniform at high speed. When the grade is clean and consistent, defect counts drop and the line holds target thickness with less scrap.
